I spend my summers on the Island of Skiathos in Greece and every summer I visit these two monasteries as they are beautiful and serene, the people are more than friendly and I feel peaceful there. The pictures of the first monastery, the Evangelistria Monastery, were taken on August 15th, a very important holiday for Greeks and the Greek Orthodox Church as it is the day when Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, ascended into Heaven and was united with Her son. The Dormation of Virgin Mary is a National Holiday in Greece and is celebrated in churches and monasteries throughout the country. The second monastery, Panaghia Kounistria Monastery, is more quiet and not so easily reachable if you wish to walk. Both monasteries are worth a visit if you are ever on the beautiful island.

In the Evangelistria Monastery you can also visit the museum and various exceptions, as well as the shop where you will find home made jam and marmalade, greek traditional sweets, wine, honey, liqueur and olive oil.
